Site:
Eichler subdivision
The street is lined with single story Eichler after single story Eichler. The owners like it that way.
Design
Objectives: Make this house "permanent" for this family, and keep the neighbors happy
Is it more sensible to move or improve the existing house? How can devoted Eichler owners change their house to suit their family of five and their tastes? Can an Eichler be made to feel even more open? How can the rear yard become more usable as part of the house?
Solution:
Back to basics
We turned the original post and beam structure of the house and added it on at the back to create an "L" shape out of this "H" plan Eichler. The private areas are sensibly tucked in the back, including a home office area for the owner who works from home.
Open up the Kitchen:
The owners wanted to be able to keep an eye on their kids, and also wanted this house to be even more open. We opened the kitchen to the living room and opened the hallway up as well. Now there is a computer station and play area in plain site from the kitchen.
Upgrade what you touch :
The kitchen and bathrooms were upgraded with quality materials and better light and lay-out. Flooring and lighting will be addressed throughout the whole house.
